IISc, IITs Drop in THE 2025 Rankings; Oxford, MIT Lead

The Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings 2025 are out, and four Indian universities. have secured their positions in the list. However, the Indian institute has slipped from their last year’s ranking.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru is ranked in the 201-300 band. However, it slipped from the 101-125 rank. Joining IISc in the same range are IIT Delhi and IIT Madras, both of which were ranked higher last year. IIT Bombay, ranked 151-175 in 2023, has dropped out of the list entirely.

Shiksha ‘O’ Anusandhan has also found a spot in the 201-300 band. SOA is a private deemed-to-be university located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It was established in 1996 and encompasses nine degree-granting schools and institutes.

Global Institutes

Harvard University continues to hold the top rank for the 14th consecutive year in the World Reputation Rankings 2025. The University of Oxford has risen to joint second place with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), making it the highest-ranked UK institution since 2015.

US universities dominated the rankings, with six institutions in the top 10. China’s Tsinghua University held the eighth position, while Japan’s University of Tokyo has secured the 10th rank.
