
IISc Tops THE Asia Univerity Ranking 2025; Shoolini Leads Private Universities
The Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2025, was released on April 23, 2025, for 853 universities from 35 countries. The ranking is based on performance across teaching, research knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
India’s record has remained strong with 20 institutions bagging top 250 places among Asia’s top universities. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and Shoolini University have recorded top ranks among the national and private universities in India.
China retains the top two positions along with the top five ranks in the top 10. Countries including Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong also perform well. Notably, all six Hong Kong universities have secured under top 50 positions. Four new countries – Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Mongolia, and Syria made their entries in the THE rankings 2025.
THE Asia University Ranking 2025 was prepared using 18 performance indicators, with a globally trusted methodology.
IISc Bengaluru has secured the 38th rank in Asia with an overall score of 65.2. The university scores 97.3 in Industry engagement, 68.1 in teaching performance, and 64.1 in research quality.
Anna University which is ranked 111th, secures a high score of 80.0 on research quality, international outlook as 20.2, and teaching as 43.3. Also, IIT Indore and Mahatma Gandhi University ranked 131st and 140th respectively.
Jamia Millia Islamia has also secured top rank with a strong Research Quality Score of 75.4, an international outlook score of 40.4, and a teaching score of 48.7. IIT Guwahati and KIIT University both ranked 184 with an overall score of 44.8.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani have secured the 201-250 band. Lovely Professional University also got into the top 250 with and research quality score of 81.4, an International Outlook of 48.8, a teaching score of 25.2, and an Industry engagement score of 24.
Shoolini Insitute has achieved a remarkable overall rank of 146th in Asia and 5th overall in India. It secured the top rank among the Indian private universities with a research quality score of 81.4 and an international outlook of 71.4. Shoolini also secured a high rank in a research environment (233), teaching (263), and Industry engagement (617).
