Bengaluru: Man Kills Wife Over Alleged Phone Addiction, Dies By Suicide Afterward

Bengaluru, Karnataka: Frustrated over his wife’s alleged addiction to mobile phone, a 38-year-old man murdered his wife and later died by suicide at their residence in Vibhutipura in Bengaluru on Tuesday night.

The incident took place following a dispute at their residence under the jurisdiction of the HAL Police Station in Bengaluru. The couple, Raghavendra and his 30-year-old wife Shruthi, had a heated argument, after which Raghavendra stabbed Shruthi to death with a beer bottle. On Tuesday night, when Raghavendra came home, he found Shruthi engrossed in her phone and got angry.

Frustrated by that, the man started the argument, which later turned violent. He allegedly hit her with a beer bottle and then stabbed her.  He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

The accused man, an auto driver, later hanged himself, ending his life. His wife was working as domestic help. Raghavendra allegedly complained that his wife did not cook food for him and was hooked to her mobile phone, while Shruthi often accused her husband of drinking.

The couple had approached police recently over a dispute and the officials sent them back after giving a counselling. The couple fell in love and got married 17 years ago after convincing their parents.

They had bought a house in Vibhutipura and settled down there. They are survived by two children, who are at Shruthi’s parents’ house in Davanagere.
