
IIT Delhi Bags Top Position In India Among QS World University Rankings 2026
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has secured the top rank among Indian institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2026, with an overall 123rd rank globally. This year, an upward trend for Indian higher education institutes was observed, with nearly half of the institutes improving their ranks. Five Indian Universities are placed among the top 100 globally for Employer Reputation.
Globally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continues to bag the top position for the 14th consecutive year. Imperial College London and Stanford University secured ranks 2 and 3, respectively. The United States remains the most represented country with 192 institutions. In Asia’s top list, Fudan University is ranked 30th, followed by Tsinghua University and Peking University.

This year, IIT Delhi rose to 123rd rank from 150 in 2025 and 197 in 2024. As per the QS 2026 rankings, the institute performed well on many fronts, with 142nd in Academic Reputation, 86th in Citations per Faculty, and 50th in Employer Reputation globally.
IIT Bombay, which ranked best Indian Institute in 2025, fell close to the 129th position this year from its 118th rank in 2025. IIT Madras saw a remarkable shift to the 18th position from 227 in 2025.
India emerged as 4th most represented country in the world, after China, the US and UK. IIT Kharagpur – 215, IIS Bangalore – 219 and Delhi University 328 are other institutes with high ranks. OP Jindal Univerity, BITS Pilani have also joined the ranks among India’s best institutions.
