NEET, JEE, CUET Exam Cities To Be Assigned Using Aadhaar: NTA

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a major development in organizing examinations. From now onwards, the exam centres will be assigned for key national-level entrance tests, including JEE Main, NEET-UG, and CUET-UG, by the NTA.

As per the latest decision of NTA, from the 2026-27 academic session, candidates will no longer be allowed to select their preferred exam cities. Instead, the centres will be allocated based on the address mentioned on the candidates’ Aadhaar card, the agency said.

To streamline the process, candidates will be advised to update the documents, including the Aadhaar Card. Aadhaar Card should be updated with the correct name, date of birth, latest photograph, address, and father’s name.

Earlier, candidates had a choice to select the exam city based on their preference, and multiple options were given to them to opt for the exam. However, the present decision will restrict candidates’ choice as the exam city centres will be given by the agency based on their address given in Aadhaar.

The decision will impact candidates who live far away from their permanent address for various reasons, including getting exam guidance from coaching or enrolling in other states for education. Now, such candidates will have to arrange their travel to their hometown ahead of the exam. The candidate will have to cover the travel expenses and advance travel booking to reach their exam centres.

However, many candidates prefer their home exam centres as they are aware of the locations of the exam centres, but many used to prefer the exam centres based on their current locations. The decision can have mixed consequences for the students appearing for the CUET, JEE, and NEET exams.
