'It Happened By Mistake': Son Who Kills Father Over NEET Pressure And Disposed Body In Blue Drum

A horrific crime has shocked Lucknow’s Sector L area near Bangla Bazaar in Ashiana. A 21-year-old son, Akshat Pratap Singh, allegedly shot his 50-year-old father, Manvendra Singh (owner of Vardhman Pathology lab), dead with his licensed rifle in the early hours of February 20, 2026, following repeated arguments over NEET exam preparation pressure.

In a desperate bid to hide the crime, the son allegedly bought an electric saw and a large blue drum, chopped the body into pieces, dumped the hands and legs in a jungle near Sadarouna village, and stuffed the torso inside the drum at their own house. He even filed a missing person report himself to mislead the police.

The decomposed remains were recovered from the drum on February 23 after a foul smell alerted neighbours and police. During intense questioning, the son confessed to the murder. He has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.

While asked about the reason, the 21-year-old Akshat replied, “galti se ho gaya (it happened by mistake). Akshat also confessed to commit crime over the exam related pressure. Notably, as per the reports, he had already been involved a theft in his home earlier, which was later identified by his father.

This horrifying father-son tragedy has left the entire city stunned and has once again sparked serious discussions about mounting academic pressure on young students and its dangerous consequences.
