
Senate Approves Linda McMahon as US Education Chief
The US Republican Senate has voted 51-45 to confirm former wrestling executive Linda McMohan as the next Secretary of Education. McMahon has a limited background in education however, she has served on Connecticut’s State Board of Education for about a year.
Trump said, as Secretary of Education, McMahon will empower the next generation of American Students and Workers and make America Number One in education in the world.

Her confirmation hearing was heated at times and interrupted repeteadly by the protesters shouting about protection for students. McMahon had decried a public education system in decline and vowed to reorient the US Department of Education and invest in teachers, not Washington bureucrats.
McMahon has been an adovcate of school choice programs and vocational training. She has pledged to expand Pell Grants while promoting alternatives to traditional four-year degrees. Her stance on restricting transgender student protections and scaling back DEI initiatives has drawn criticism from education advocates.

Reportedly, the white house intends to dismantle the department and that it will be McMahon’s job to oversee that effort. ‘We would like to do this right’, McMahon said during her confirmation hearing and acknowledged that Congress holds the authority to dismantle the agency.
