Till now, CUET-UG counselling has been done after the announcement of the result. NTA sends candidates’ scores to universities that students have chosen while filling out the application process. The participating institutes release the CUET cut-off with the merit lists of registered candidates qualified. The counselling is conducted by the CUET accepting colleges individually.
However, now the University Grant Commission (UGC) is planning to streamline the counselling process. As per the Economic Times report, the UGC is exploring to follow the common counselling procedure used in the line of medical and engineering courses for CUET undergraduate courses.
As part of the move, UGC has formed a committee comprising officials from various universities to consider the feasibility of the idea. Reportedly, five renowned universities have also been selected for a pilot run being conducted internally to study the pros and cons of the given consideration.
The idea if approved and implemented will provide students with choices on a single portal instead of separately applying to different universities directly. However, this is in the ideational stage and the final decision will be taken on the recommendations of the panel and after consultation with the stakeholders, ET reported.
Earlier, the commission said to merge JEE, NEET with CUET- UG, however no development took place on this front.
