BJP-Led Alliance Set To Rule BMC, Passes Halfway Mark

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is poised for a resounding victory in Maharashtra’s municipal elections held Thursday, with vote counting underway since 10 AM Friday. The spotlight shines on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), India’s richest civic body and one of Asia’s wealthiest.

Trends from BMC’s 227 wards by the evening show Mahayuti surging ahead in 116, dwarfing the Shiv Sena (UBT) alliance’s lead in 85.

Following the trends showed BJP surge after almost 25 years, Prime Minister thanked the voters and lauded the party workers for the victory, and said: “Thank you Maharashtra! The dynamic people of the state bless the NDA’s agenda of pro-people good governance! The results of various municipal corporation elections indicate that NDA’s bond with the people of Maharashtra has further deepened. Our track record and vision for development have struck a chord. My gratitude to the people across Maharashtra. This is a vote to add momentum to progress and celebrate the glorious culture the state is associated with.

“I am very proud of every NDA Karyakarta who worked tirelessly among people across Maharashtra. They talked about our alliance’s track record, highlighted our vision for the coming times and also effectively countered the lies of the Opposition. My best wishes to them.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis wasted no time, calling state BJP chief Ravindra Chauhan to congratulate him. Posting on X, Fadnavis declared: “BJP writes history once again at the Municipal Corporation Election 2025-26!”
