In Mumbai, the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance is leading in 83 of the 227 BMC wards, giving it a strong advantage in the race to control India’s richest civic body.

The opposition alliance, led by the reunited Thackeray brothers, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), is leading in 58 wards, according to early counting trends.

The BMC election is seen as a prestige battle, especially after a long gap since the last polls in 2017. Control of the municipal corporation is crucial due to its massive annual budget and influence over Mumbai’s civic administration.

The counting process is being conducted under tight security, with election officials stating that all procedures are being followed as per State Election Commission guidelines. Final results are expected later in the day as counting progresses.
