Jaipur, April 6: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today took on Prime Minister Modi head on, challenging him to list one single thing that he had actually done for the country. He alleged that Modi was a habitual liar, who speaks one lie after another, and claims credit for everything while actually doing nothing other than abusing the Congress.
Addressing a largely attended public rally, after releasing the ‘Nyay Patra’ (party manifesto) along with the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi and the party general secretary Ms Priyanka Gandhi, here today, he said, unlike Modi’s guarantees, the Congress has a proven record of fulfilling all the guarantees it has made to the people.
He said, besides providing justice to the people of the country, the 2024 general elections were for safeguarding democracy and the constitution of the country.
Challenging the Prime Minister to list one single achievement, he remarked, even the word “guarantee” he (the PM) stole from the Congress. He said it was used by Rahul Gandhi during the assembly elections in the states of Karnataka and Telangana and Modi started using this word after that.
He pointed out, whatever guarantees the Congress had given in three states, it has fulfilled all of them.
He reminded people about Modi’s lies and asked whether he had fulfilled any of those promises he had made before becoming the Prime Minister. He pointed out, Modi promised to generate 2 crore jobs every year which means there should be 20 crores jobs till now.
Kharge, in his characteristic style of interacting with crowds, asked them, did you get 20 crore jobs, the crowd replied “no”. Then he asked, did Modi deposit Rs 15 lakhs in their bank accounts, the crowds shouted “no”. He then asked, how can a Prime Minister lie, they (the crowd) must be lying, the crowd again replied in negative. Then he said, that is why he has been saying that Modi is the greatest liar (joothon ka Sardar), who creates a new lie every time.
He took a dig at the Prime Minister for announcing his own “Modi guarantee”. He said, typical to his character to claim credit for everything without doing anything, Kharge said, Modi does not even mention his party the BJP anymore, but only himself. Taunting Modi for asserting his masculinity by claiming his chest size to be “56 inches”, he pointed out, China had occupied so much of India’s land, renamed several towns and villages, but Modi had preferred to keep quiet.
He told Modi that once he is out of power, people will hold him to account and ask him what he did for ten years.
The Congress president said, besides the fight for justice, these elections are for saving the democracy and constitution of the country. He referred to the frequent statements of BJP leaders seeking two-third majority to change the constitution. He warned, if the constitution is changed, nothing will be left as with it, every right and privilege people enjoy because of it, will also go away.
