Lok Sabha Election: AAP Announces Candidates For Delhi And Haryana

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-Led the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today announced candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election for Delhi and Haryana. The party announced its candidates after reaching a seat-sharing agreement with Congress.

The party has fielded Somnath Bharti for New Delhi, Sahiram Pehalwan for South Delhi, former MP Mahabal Mishra for West Delhi and Kuldeep Kumar for East Delhi constituencies. The party has picked former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta for the Haryana”s Kurukshetra constituency.

The party”s candidate for New Delhi Somnath Bharti is the vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board while the East Delhi candidate Kuldeep Kumar is a representative in state legislative assembly.

Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai said that the names for each constituency were selected after several meetings and discussions as the party has to win in each seat it contests. According to him, the biggest yardstick for selecting a candidate for a particular constituency is his winnability. Unlike the BJP who does not work with the public, the AAP MPs will be available day and night for the public, the AAP leader added.

Mr Rai also noted that the party has chosen a candidate from the scheduled caste category for the general seat in East Delhi. Mr Kuldeep Kumar who comes from the scheduled caste was picked up, aiming to end the caste-based politics, the AAP leader further said, noting that it is the work and public service that was the reason for the party to give him a ticket.
