The Congress released a list of 39 candidates representing their party in the upcoming Mizoram Assembly election on Monday.
Lalsawta, President of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee and former finance minister is contesting the election from Aizawl West- III.

Currently, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is conducting a padayatra in Aizawl, Mizoram, and kick-started the election campaign for the party in Mizoram in the poll-bound state. He greeted people through his yatra and has been received support from the massive crowd.
Mizoram will go to the booths on November 7, and the counting of votes will take place on December 3. The election will be held for 40 Assembly seats.
This time, Mizoram will witness three-way contest in the election via ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People”s Movement (ZPM), and Congress. The key players in the election are Zoramthanga of the MNF, Lalduhoma of the ZPM, and Lalsawta of the Congress.
MNF has already declared the candidates and it includes two women and 15 new faces. Zoramthanga, the Chief Minister and MNF President, will contest from Aizawl East – I, the seat he won in the 2018 assembly elections.
Similarly, ZPM emerged as the strong opposition has also announced their list of candidates, and presented Lalduhoma, a senior politician as their Chief Ministerial face.
BJP is yet to release candidates for the assembly election.
In the previous assembly election in 2018, Mizo National Front (MNF) emerged victorious by securing 26 seats with a vote share of 37.8 per cent. Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) with their 6 seats turned as the major opposition, whereas Congress secured 5 and BJP secured one seats respectively.
Besides Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Telengana, and Rajasthan, is going to assembly polls by the end of the year.
