Odisha Assembly Elections To Be Held From May 13

Along with the Lok Sabha election schedule, the Election Commission today announced four state assembly election dates. Odisha will go to poll From May 13. The previous assembly election was also held side by side the Lok Sabha elections. The current state government tenure will end this year, entailing fresh elections in the state. The elections will be held in two phases; first on May 13 and the second on May 20. The counting of the votes will take place on June 4. 

Odisha’s previous assembly election was held in 2019 and commenced on April 29. Following the election, The Biju Janata Dal emerged victorious with 112 seats out of 147 and formed the state government with Naveen Patnaik as Chief Minister.

Being the longest-serving chief minister of Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD)’s Naveen Patnaik formed the government for the fifth consecutive term in 2019. The Bharatiya Janata Party secured 23 seats, the Indian National Congress 9 seats, and the Community Party of India (Marxist) and independent candidates the remaining seats.
