With Congress fielding Maheshwar Hazari”s son Sunny Hazari against Ashok Choudhary”s daughter Shambhavi Choudhary, the Samastipur Lok Sabha seat in Bihar is set to witness a fierce face-off between the children of two ministers in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government. The son and daughter of the JDU veterans are expected to give tough competition to one another.

The constituency is currently held by Prince Raj, the cousin of Chirag Paswan, the chief of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), an ally of the NDA. The Information and Public Relations Minister minister Maheshwar Hazari” son Sunny Hazari recently joined the Congress and got a ticket from Samastipur after he was reportedly denied the ticket by the Chirag Paswan. It is reported that the decision of Minister Maheshwar Hazari”s son to join the Congress party was after securing the finalisation of his nomination from the Samastipur.

Maheshwar Hazari is also a cousin of Chirag’s father, the late Ramvilas Paswan. Since both LJP and JD(U) are part of the NDA, Maheshwar Hazari is distancing himself from his son”s decision and political campaigning while Ashok Choudhary is actively campaigning for his daughter without any dilemma.

After Ashok Chaudhary”s daughter Shambhavi Chaudhary was given a ticket, members from the NDA alliances including the JDU workers are actively campaigning for the candidate. As a minister under the Nitish Kumar government, Maheshwar Hazari cannot openly campaign and campaign for his son. It is reported that Maheshwar Hazari has been making efforts behind the scenes for his son”s victory.

However, both the candidates of the JDU heavyweights children need to test their mettle and popularity from the Samastipur in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
