Avimanyu Sethi, Son Of Eight Times MP Got BJP Ticket From Bhadrak

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a ticket to Avimanyu Sethi to run for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 from the Bhadrak Lok Sabha constituency. The Bhadrak Lok Sabha constituency election 2024 will take place on June 1 (Phase 7). Despite Avimanyu’s loss in the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP trusted and fielded him again. There were speculations that the BJP would drop the candidates who had lost in the last polls. Congress fielded Asit Patnaik from Bhadrak and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chose Manjulata Mandal to run for the 18th Lok Sabha elections.

Avimanyu Sethi declared his net income as Rs 4 crore and owns a gas agency and home appliances proprietor. Sethi”s educational qualification includes a master”s degree. He is the son of eight-time MP and former BJP Union minister Arjun Sethi.

The Bhadrak Lok Sabha constituency comprises 7 assembly segments: Soro, Simulia, Bhandaripokhari, Bhadrak, Basudevpur, Dhamnagar, and Chandabali. The constituency is a BJD stronghold as the BJD candidates won 6 out of 7 assembly seats. From 1990 till 2014 Arjun Charan Sethi from BJD represented the constituency in the parliament. In 2019 Manju Lata Mandal won the Lok Sabha elections on BJD ticket. However, the BJD candidate won the elections with 41.86% votes whereas the BJP runner-up candidate Avimanyu Sethi received 39.51% votes. In 2019, the total number of voters turned out was 73.9% in the constituency.

BJP registered a significant growth in terms of total votes gained in the general elections as in 2014 BJP gained only 20.03 percent votes which increased in 2019 to 39.51%.

Bhadrak is an SC category parliament seat that comprises part of Balasore district and Bhadrak district. The literacy rate of the constituency is 71.85%. The total SC, ST, and Muslim populations in the district are 21.75%, 4.83%, and 5.9% respectively. Reportedly, 90% of its population lives in rural areas, and the remaining lives in Urban cities.
