Joyanta Basumatary of UPPL won the Kokrajhar constituency of Assam in the Lok Sabha election 2024 pushing back his rival Kampa Borgoyari of Bodoland Peoples Front with a margin of 51,583 votes.
UPPL marked its first victory in this constituency as the candidate Joyanta Basumatary secured 4,88,995 votes and the opponent Kampa Borgoyari became the runner-up with 4,37,412 votes. The Kokrajhar constituency was represented by an independent candidate Nabakumar Saranya in the Last two Lok Sabah elections.
Joyanta Basumatary, an incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Sidli constituency, made his entry into the parliamentary election as he represented the UPPL party in the Kokrajhar constituency. From being the Vice President of All Bodo Student Union, he marked his political entry in the Legislative Assembly on the UPPL ticket in the 2021 assembly election.
The history of Kokrajhar constituency of Assam has been the political land of independent candidates for decades and Bodoland People’s Front was the only party, which marked its victory through the 2009 Lok Sabha election after decades. And this election changed its political dynamics as it marked the victory of UPPL in the Kokrajhar constituency.
