Chief Minister's Son Shrikant Shinde Makes Hat-trick In Kalyan

Shrikant Shinde, Shiv Sena candidate from Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency won by securing 589,636 votes. He won by defeating his opponent Vaishalo Darekar with a vote margin of 209,144 votes.

Shiv Sena candidate Shrikant Shinde is the sitting MP from the Kalyan constituency. He is the son of chief minister Eknath Shinde. Shinde has secured successive wins in last two general elections from the Kalyan seat. He had found himself surrounded with controversy when a viral photograph showing him with the gangster Hemant Dabhekar at the chief minister’s official residence had earlier triggered a stir in the state politics.

While Shiv Sena (UBT) faction fielded two time municipal corporator Vaishalo Darekar- Rane as their candidate to the seat. She has won her first election in 2000 when she became a municipal corporator of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal corporation. When Raj Thackeray walked out of the Shiv Sena to form MNS, she had followed him.

Kalyan constituency is a significant electoral region. Historically, the BJPs Ram Kapse solidified the alliances influence with victories from 1989 to 1996. The transition occurred when Shiv Sena took over the seat initially by Prakash Paranjape and later by his son Anand Paranjape continuing the legacy.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Shrikand Shindes represented the continuation of Shiv Sena dominance in Kalyan.

While in 2019 election, Shiv Sena candidate Shrikant contested against NCPs Babaji Balaram Patil. Shinde victory underscored the constituencies continued support for the party.

The Maha Vikas Agadhi has toppled the exit poll results and has won from the state sweeping majority of the seats.
