West Bengal Bypolls 2024: Trinamool Wins 4, Leading In 2 Seats

All India Trinamool Congress of Mamata Banerjee has won four seats in the Assembly byelections held in West Bengal and leading in other two seats. The party has won Sitai, Madarihat, Naihati and Haroa seats while leading in Medinipur and Taldangra.

In Sitai, Sangita Roy defeated BJP’s Dipak Kumar Ray while in Madarihat Jayprakash Toppo won the elections with a margin of 28168 votes against Rahul Lohar. Sanat Dey won the electins in Naihati with a margin of 49277 votes against Rupak Mitra. In Haroa, Trinamool’s SK Rabiul Islam defeated Piyarul Islam of All India Secular Front with a margin of 131388.

In Medinipur and Taldangra, Sujoy Hazra and Falguni Singhababu of Trinamool are leading as per the information provided by the Election Commission of India.

While in Maharashtra, BJP led Mahayuti alliance is leading 222 out of 288 total constituencies, set for a landslide victory against the opposition MVA. The MVA has been leading in 55 seats, as the major regional parties in the state appears to show their supremacy following the recent splits.

The 288 assembly seats in the State went to polls in a single phase on November 20 and 66.05% voter turnout was recorded. Among the seats, 234 belongs to general constituencies, 29 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), and 25 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST). The ruling Mahayuti consists of the BJP, the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led breakaway faction of the Shiv Sena, and the deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The opposition, the INDIA bloc’s MVA or the Maha Vikas Aghadi, has the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), or SS (UBT) led by former CM Uddhav Thackeray, the NCP (SP) faction led by Sharad Pawar and the Congress.

In Jharkhand, INDIA alliance-led by JMM in the state is leading in 52 seats while BJP-led NDA has 29 seats. The trends suggest that Mahayuti in Maharashtra and INDIA bloc in Jharkhand are inching towards the victory.
