YS Sharmila Meets Gandhis In Delhi Amid Rumours Of Merger With Congress

Daughter of former united Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Y.S. Sharmila met Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi amid rumors that her YSR Telangana Party would merge with the grand old party soon.

According to reports, Sharmila, who floated the YSR Telangana Party in July 2021, met the Congress leaders in their capital residence on Thursday, August 31. She said constructive discussions took place in the 30-minute meeting.

“I met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Constructive discussions took place. The daughter of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy would relentlessly work towards benefiting the Telangana people. I can say one thing, the countdown for KCR has begun,” Sharmila told reporters after meeting the Gandhis. Sharmila, who had campaigned for her brother in the 2019 assembly elections in which Mr. Reddy won a mammoth majority, was hinting at Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao”s defeat in the upcoming assembly polls.

However, YSR Telangana Party leaders are unaware of Sharmila”s Delhi trip and her meeting with the Gandhis, reported news agency PTI.

The Congress, which is engaged in an intense campaign to win the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections, remained discreet about Sharmila”s plans. Rumors about her plans to join hands with the Congress got a boost when Sharmila met Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar after the Congress party”s win in the state elections.
