Ekta Kapoor who is a renowned Bollywood filmmaker and TV producer is under fire on social media as the hashtag #Ban_AltBalaji trended on X with users condemning Ekta Kapoor and her company Balaji Telefilms Ltd.
A complaint was filed against Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor under the POCSO Act as the allegations include filming objectionable scenes with a minor girl in the web series ‘Gandi Baat’ (season 6) on Alt Balaji saying that the content is extremely ‘Hindu Phobic.’

Social media users highlighted past controversies including depicting extramarital affairs of a soldier’s wife on AltBalaji and she had faced legal issues over this previously. Following the issue, Advocate Amita Sachdeva stated, “Alt Balaji disrespects Indian culture and promotes cheap popularity. Ekta Kapoor should face stricter punishment to prevent future insults,” she added. The Mumbai Police have registered a case against Balaji Telefilms Limited, Ekta Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor at the MHB police station.
The producers face charges under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Information Technology Act, and Sections 13 and 15 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as per ANI report.

The allegations against Ekta Kapoor include obscene scenes featuring minor girls in ‘Gandi Baat’ season 6, insulting men and saints through cigarette adadvertisements, violating POCSO Act rules, potential breaches of the Information Technology Act 2000, also the prohibition of the Women Act 1986, and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003. However, this controversial episode is not currently available for streaming on the OTT platform.
Ekta Kapoor serves as the Joint Managing Director and Creative Head of Balaji Telefilms Limited which was founded in 1994. She established Balaji Motion Pictures in 2001 which is a subsidiary film production and distribution company. She launched ALTBalaji in April 2017, a popular video-on-demand platform further expanding her media empire.
