In Hridayapoorvam, Mohanlal plays Sandeep Balakrishnan, a heart transplant recipient navigating a new phase of life. The story blends humour, emotion, and relationships, with the screenplay penned by debutant Sonu T. P., based on a story by Akhil Sathyan.
Malavika Mohanan stars as the female lead, Haritha, while Sangeeth Prathap (of Premalu fame) plays Jerry in a substantial role alongside Mohanlal.
The ensemble cast also includes Sangita Madhavan Nair, Siddique, Lalu Alex, Janardhanan, Baburaj, Nishan, S. P. Charan, Gayatri Arun, and others. Actress Meera Jasmine makes a cameo appearance, reuniting with Mohanlal after several years.

The film was shot in Kochi, Thekkady, and Pune, with locations carefully chosen to reflect the emotional tone of the narrative. Cinematography is handled by Anu Moothedath, editing by K. Rajagopal, and music by Justin Prabhakaran, who composed a four-track album featuring singers like Sid Sriram and S. P. Charan.
Notably, Hridayapoorvam uses sync sound recording, marking Mohanlal’s return to this technique after more than three decades since Vasthuhara (1991).
Released just days before the film, the soundtrack has already gained popularity, especially the track “Venmathi” sung by Sid Sriram, which is trending on streaming platforms.
The project also marks the 18th collaboration between Sathyan Anthikad and Mohanlal, a partnership that has previously delivered memorable family dramas. Speaking about the film, Anthikad said, “Like our earlier films, this too will be a relatable story, but treated in a new and deeply emotional way.”
Hridayapoorvam released worldwide on 28 August 2025, today, coinciding with the Onam season, one of the most lucrative periods for Malayalam cinema.
