“I Should Have Remained Silent”: Survivor’s Post Exposes The Brutal Reality Of Victim-Blaming In Actor Assault Case

“I made a mistake. When an attack was committed against me, I immediately complained to the police and demanded legal action.”

These are the heartbreaking words shared by the survivor of the 2017 actress abduction and sexual assault case, following the circulation of a viral video in which one of the convicted accused allegedly claims that her allegations were fabricated.

In a deeply emotional social media post shared on Friday, the survivor spoke about the unending trauma of being questioned even years after the crime.

She said that perhaps she should have remained silent, accepted everything as fate, or even ended her life—because that is what society seems to expect from women who speak up.

Referring to the second accused, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison and later released, she wrote that videos like these attempt to paint her as someone who “cooked up stories” and falsely accused men.

She also spoke about the painful irony of being blamed for reporting the crime immediately, and then later being accused of lying when evidence surfaced.

“May this situation not happen to you or anyone in your home,” she wrote, condemning those who spread such narratives.

By the end of her post, the survivor made it clear that she no longer holds expectations of justice from society or the system. She wrote, “Not a victim, not a survivor, I am just a human being. Let me live.”

The post comes amid renewed discussion around the 2017 sexual assault case, in which a leading Malayalam actor was abducted and assaulted.

Actor Dileep was named as the prime accused in the case, but was later acquitted, which shook Kerala and sparked nationwide debate on women’s safety, power, and accountability.

Despite years of legal proceedings, the survivor continues to face public scrutiny, online abuse, and repeated attempts to discredit her.
