Mumbai: Maharashtra Police has registered a case against Bollywood actor Sharad Kapoor for alleged misbehaviour with a 32-year-old woman. Reports said the victim alleged that the actor had called her to his house, during which he tried to misbehave with her, and also forcibly touched her inappropriately. However, the actor, who is currently in New York, while talking to Indian Express, denied the allegations and said he was not present in the country during the alleged incident, however confirmed that he has met the woman once. He said that he never did such a wrong thing and never imagined doing something like that.
News agency ANI reported that Khar Police have filed a case against him under sections 74, 75, and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The actor has been summoned for questioning regarding the allegations made against him. Reacting to this, Sharad Kapoor said that his representative will respond to the police notice.
According to the FIR by the Khar police, on 26 November, the woman received a video call from actor Sharad Kapoor, who claimed to have seen her profiles on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. He, according to the FIR, then expressed interest in collaborating with her and invited her to his office to discuss work. They exchanged phone numbers, and Kapoor shared his address along with a Google Maps location.
That evening, the woman arrived at the address but discovered it was Kapoor’s residence, not his office. A housekeeper opened the door, and Kapoor called her directly to his bedroom.
“When I reached the bedroom door, I saw he was completely naked. I stepped back and asked him to dress. I told him I wasn’t comfortable speaking while he was undressed, but he insisted, saying, ‘Please come, hug me, and kiss me.’ I refused,” she stated in her complaint. The woman alleges Kapoor then hugged and groped her, prompting her to flee.
Later, Kapoor allegedly sent her obscene material and abusive messages on WhatsApp, including a voice note claiming the material was related to his girlfriend.
Kapoor has been booked under sections related to outraging a woman’s modesty and sexual harassment. No arrest has been made yet, and the offence carries a sentence of less than seven years.
