South Korean R&B and ballad singer Wheesung was found dead at his home in Seoul on Monday evening. The sudden demise of the K-pop star shook the internet, with millions of fans expressing their distress. Here is what happened to the K-pop star on March 10.
As per the reports, the 43-year-old singer was found collapsed in his apartment in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, at around 6:29 pm on March 10. Fire departments were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report from Wheesung’s family. He was discovered in a state of cardiac arrest, and despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police and fire department are investigating the specific cause of death, since a considerable amount of time has passed before his body was discovered.

The authorities are also investigating the cause of the death with the possibility of suicide and drug overdose. However, the police said that there was no evidence of external intrusion or other criminal suspicions were able to observe. The officials are also investigating whether there was a suicide note left and other specific circumstances may led to death. As of now, the exact circumstances leading to his passing remain unclear, and further investigations are underway.
This sudden demise of Wheesung shook the internet since he was scheduled to hold a joint concert with singer KCM, The Story, at the Daegu EXCO Auditorium on the March 15. On March 6, he posted a picture on his social networking service (SNS) with the caption, “See you on March 15th when I’m done with my diet.”

Wheesung: The rise of the Kpop star
Wheesung, who debuted in 2002 with his first album, Like A Movie, gained huge popularity at the time with his representative song Can’t I?. He released hit songs such as With Me, The Day We Met Again, Incurable Disease, and One Year.
Being an active lyricist, he also wrote lyrics for Younha’s Password 486, Lee Hyori’s HEY MR.BIG (Boys in Girl), T-ara’s Crazy Because of You, Orange Caramel’s Magic Girl, TWICE’s Dance The Night Away, Ivy’s Sonata of Temptation, and Ailee’s Heaven, in addition to his own songs.
Over the years, Wheesung established himself as a mentor and vocal coach to K-pop stars, even writing songs for some of them. He collaborated with many artists and also performed in K-pop concerts across the world, including Hollywood.
The Real Slow Company
In 2017, Wheesung parted ways with YMC Entertainment after his contract with the agency came to an end. He set up an independent label called Realslow Company and announced that he will now be promoting under the stage name Realslow.
Drug usage and imprisonments
He was accused of purchasing 3,910 ml of propofol (a powerful anesthetic that also caused the death of Michael Jackson) for 6.5 million won on 12 occasions between September and November 2019 and administering 3,690 ml on 11 occasions.
In March and April 2020, Wheesung was found unconscious in Songpa-gu and Gwangjin-gu after being injected with etomidate, an anesthetic drug that induces sleep.
Wheesung was indicted on charges of administering the psychotropic sleeping pill propofol and was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation in an appeal trial in 2021.
