While attending Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor on Tuesday said her dream is to perform in a period role. She is the brand ambassador for options market “Word To Screen’ at the festival.
It was during the panel discussion on ‘The Art of Costume Design – Celebrating the book and the legacy of Bhanu Athaiya’, Ms. Kapoor said that though she is known for her fashion choices and dressing style, film directors cast her as simpleton in movies. “I’ve done period dramas but for some reason, every director, even though I’m known for my clothes, every director likes me in simple clothes and no make-up. I’m always (playing) the girl-next-door. I’ve never done a period film with jewellery and Indian clothes,” The Print reports.
“In films I’m always wearing simple ‘salwar kameez’. So, my dream is to do a period dramatic role one day,” she said. She then adds that she satisfies her dream by wearing dramatic costumes in the red carpet.
Word to Screen, is an intiative launched by Jio MAMI in 2016 which offers arena for writers, publishers, and filmmakers to engage and option stories. Regarding her association with Word to Screen and how the platform empowers good stories, National-award winning actress said: “As actors, we are constantly looking for compelling, disruptive and engaging stories that touch the hearts of the people. By supporting a platform like Word to Screen, I am taking a step towards ensuring the industry benefits from this initiative and we tell a lot more meaningful stories to our audience,” ETimes reports.
She further add that, “As a voracious reader, I understand the power of an incredible story and how a well-written book can form the backbone of a compelling film narrative.”
Ms. Kapoor is known for her roles in the movies, Neerja”, “Khoobsurat,” “Raanjhanaa”, and ”“Veere Di Wedding.”
