National Award-winning Director Dr Biju in his open letter slams Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Chairman Director Ranjith and said: “my relevance is not determined by Mr Ranjith.” The letter was in response to Ranjith”s comments regarding Dr Biju and his latest movie, Adrishya Jalakangal in recent Media interview.
In the interview, Ranjith said that Dr Biju had created problems and now his movie Adrishya Jalakangal has released in theatre but failed to attract audience. Therefore, Dr Biju should think about his relevance, states Ranjith, as his movies fail to bring audience to the theatre.
Dr Biju, in turn, in the long open letter posted on Facebook snubbed at Ranjith”s ignorance for believing that cinema is only meant to bring audience to the theatre, and mentioned the futility of discussing cinema”s form outside crowd pull with him. He then recounted the critical accolades received by Adrishya Jalakangal and how it gathered audience while it screened in International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
Dr Biju then dismantles Ranjith”s claim that a movie should bring audience to the theatre by stating that in IFFK various movies from around the world are showcased because it was being screened in different film festivals not because they brought audience to theatres. He reiterated the message that he sent to Ranjith after watching latter”s interview, “my relevance is not determined by Mister Ranjith.” Dr Biju then added that this open message is meant to say that Ranjith”s aristocratic attitude and commands should rest with him alone. Before concluding he mentioned that Ranjith should think whether he possess any relevance or eligibility to head as a chairman of an international film festival.
