Bihar: A wedding celebration in Buxar turned into a scene of horror after an 18-year-old bride was allegedly shot by her neighbour during the ceremony on Tuesday night.

The victim, Aarti Kumari, was on stage with her groom as friends and family gathered around to witness the rituals.

According to police, the incident took place around 11 pm. A relative was performing a customary ritual when a man standing among the guests suddenly pulled out a firearm and shot Aarti in the stomach, near her navel.

Chaos broke out instantly. Guests screamed and rushed for safety, while family members tried to keep the bride conscious. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for first aid and later referred to the trauma centre in Varanasi due to her critical condition.

Doctors say she remains in serious condition.

Police have identified the accused as Deenbandhu, a neighbour of the bride. Initial investigations suggest that the shooting may be linked to a suspected love affair, though officials have not confirmed detailed motives. The accused is currently absconding.

Authorities have detained his parents for questioning and launched multiple raids to track him down. Additional Station House Officer Chandan Kumar stated that the accused had previously been jailed in a liquor-related case.

The wedding procession, which had arrived from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, returned shortly after the incident.
