Manipur MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Monday launched a sharp attack against ruling BJP over Manipur violence. Academic-turned-politician said in his speech that he would stay quiet if Prime Minister Modi speak on the violence and say, Manipur is part of India and they care for this State, and only then he will accept what is Nationalism.

The inclusion of Northeast history, even after 75 years of independence there is “classic exclusion,” Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said in the parliament. Even today Northeast remains outside history textbooks, that is why “you treat them as ‘Other'”, he stated.

Continuing further, Manipur MP said that the silence of Manipur tragedy is not unique, it is the reflection of the general continuity of the colonial in the post-colonial.

He then said that it is sad to see nationalist party like BJP is still comfortable on the tragedy of Manipur, and MP urges to think about 60,000 people in relief camps, then talk about nationalism, only then will understand “what this tragedy means”.

Getting emotional – conveying the hurt, pain and anger, Manipur MP said in conclusion: “I would keep quiet the moment, the Prime Minister opens his mouth and the nationalist party says that Manipur is part of India and we care for the people of that state. Only then I will accept what is nationalism in our face.”
