Amid the allegations that the BJP is trying to destabilise the Jharkhand state government, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials reached at the Jharkhand chief minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren”s residence today to question him. Mr Hemant during the questioning filed a police complaint against the ED officials seeking action under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Amid the speculation of the chief minister’s arrest, the supporters have also gathered outside his residence.

Mr Soren is facing investigation in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. The ED had questioned the chief minister on January 20 and this marks the second questioning in 10 days. However, the chief minister in his complaint against the ED officials mentioned the name of the officials saying that they carried out a purported search.  “This purported search was without any notice to me nor was my presence required on January 29 in New Delhi by the named persons (ED officials),” the chief minister said in the complainant. He accused the ED officials of harassing him and his family.

The chief minister also alleged that the ED was maligning him and his community’s image based on information propagated by false news. “I have come to learn from the reports in the electronic media that on 30th January 2024, the above-named persons have leaked selective misinformation that a blue BMW car seized from the said premises belongs to me huge sums of illicit cash belonging to me was found at the said premises. I am not the owner of the car of BMW which the above-named persons claim to have seized. I do not own any illicit cash,” the chief minister said referring to the case registered against him. However, the opposition BJP has been accusing Mr Hemant of evading the investigative agency. When the agency came to the chief minister”s residence on Monday, the JMM leader was not at home.

Talking about the BJP’s alleged “conspiracy to destabilise the government,” JMM MP Mahua Maji said that the party is prepared to tackle all conspiracies. “You can see how the Central Government and BJP are hatching a conspiracy to destabilize & topple governments and form their own government in non-BJP ruled states. So, the party is prepared to face and tackle all conspiracies. But no such situation will arise as all the MLAs in the alliance are united. Hemant Soren will be the CM… We are hearing it from the media,” Mr Mahua Maji said.
