At least nine people have been killed and 33 injured after a bus carrying pilgrims was attacked by terrorists fell into a ravine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi on Sunday evening, said the police.
The suspected shooting occurred as the 53-seater bus was returning from the Shiv Khor cave and was on its way to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu’s Katra.

District police chief Mohita Sharma said, “Militants ambushed the bus and fired it indiscriminately. The bus fell into a gorge, leading to the death of nine pilgrims, and 33 are injured.”
Sharma revealed that the attack occurred around 6 pm when the militants fired at the bus which led to the bus driver losing control of the vehicle, which fell into a nearby gorge. The rescue mission was concluded at around 8 pm with civilians also lending a hand to the J&K police. After the successful rescue mission, the injured were rushed to Narayana Hospital and Reasi District Hospital.
Reportedly, five teams have been deployed in the forested region along with the use of drones to search for the terrorists. According to India Today, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been roped in to investigate the matter. As per the district chief police and eye witnesses, there were two attackers who fled the scene immediately.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to X and condemned the attack. “Deeply pained by the incident of the attack on pilgrims in Reasi, J&K. Spoke to the Lieutenant Governor and the DGP, J&K, and inquired about the incident. The culprits of this dastardly attack will not be spared and will face the wrath of the law. The local administration is working on a war footing to provide immediate medical attention. May the Almighty give the loved ones of the deceased the strength to bear this pain. I also pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” Shah said.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said expressed hi condolences to the affected and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. “The cowardly terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims from Shivkhodi temple in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir is extremely saddening. This shameful incident is the true picture of the worrying security situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” Gandhi said. He further added, “The entire country stands united against terrorism.”

Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir strongly condemned the attack and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Defence minister Rajnath Singh took to X and called the attack “extremely reprehensible.”
