The senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament P Chidambaram on Saturday took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and criticized the central government of India and the ruling political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for “misusing” probe agencies during the elections against the opposition parties. He cited the example of Telangana, where Mr Chidambaram said at least four candidates of his party were summoned or their premises searched where they were midst of poll campaigns.
The 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly Elections, as per the Election Commission of India, was scheduled to be held on November 30, 2023. The results will be declared on December 3 and the state is witnessing a crucial test amidst a triangular competition. The state government is currently ruled by the Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti (BRS) with K Chandrashekar Rao on the Chief Ministerial position. The major opposition is the Indian National Congress (INC) and the BJP is still working hard even though they had a comparatively low profile in the state now.

According to P Chidambaram, at least four candidates fielded by the Congress for the upcoming Telangana elections, were subjected to the summoning or raids by the central investigative agencies now. All those candidates were amidst of the poll campaigns and the election is crucial for the Congress, since they aim for a replacement of the BRS in the assembly.
As said by the Congress leader, one of the raided/summoned candidates was “the Chairman of the BJP”s Manifesto Committee and resigned from the BJP on November 1”. He added that, till time, no candidates from the BJP had been searched by the agencies. He slammed the ruling party at the centre under the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi as, all of their candidates were “chosen by the gods and carry divine blessings”.
He added that, “if the BJP is elected, the party will take the people of Telangana straight to heaven”. According to him, the misuse of the probe agencies is so obvious that it does not require any argument in a court of law.
