The BJP has named its national president and Union Health Minister, JP Nadda, as the leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha. The party replaced the sitting Piyush Goyal, who has been wielding the position since 2021. Goyal was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2010. He won the recently held Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai North constituency.

Notably, Nadda’s term as BJP chief ends on June 30, but he may continue until the assembly polls in four states which will be held later this year, according to reports. The saffron party’s national president has also been given the cabinet berth in the Modi 3.0 government. He had served as the health minister in the first Modi government during the 2014–19 term.  Before venturing into national politics, he represented Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. He has also served as a minister of health as well as the minister of forest in Himachal Pradesh. Nadda was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2012. He is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat.
