Reacting to the Indian National Congress (INC)’s rejection of the invitation to the Ram Temple event after they called it “an RSS/BJP event,” Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani said that the Congress party’s anti-Lord Ram face is before the nation. “Congress party”s anti-Lord Ram face is before the nation. It is no surprise that under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, the party that had filed an affidavit before the court that Lord Ram is a fictional character, its leadership declined the invitation to the “pranpratishtha” of Ram Temple,” Irani told the media.
Irani went on to say that the INDIA bloc has insulted Sanatan Dharma again and again. “Under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Congress, the INDI Alliance has insulted Sanatan Dharma again and again. Now, the declining of the invitation to the “pranpratishtha” by leaders of the INDI Alliance reflects their anti-Sanatan mindset,” Irani was seen saying in a video posted by news agency ANI.
Irani’s statement comes hours after the Congress general secretary in charge of communication Jai Ram Ramesh issued the party’s official statement rejecting the BJP’s invitation to the Ram Temple event. Saying that the event is “clearly an RSS/BJP event,” Jairam Ramesh declined the invitation and noted that the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is declining BJP’s invitation.
The statement issued by Jairam Ramesh said that Lord Ram is worshipped by millions in the county and the BJP/RSS have made a political project of the temple in Ayodhya. The inauguration of the incomplete temple by the leaders of the BJP and the RSS has been obviously brought forward for electoral gain, the statement said.
“While abiding by the 2019 Supreme Court judgment and honouring the sentiments of millions who revere Lord Ram, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have respectfully declined the invitation to what is clearly an RSS/BJP event,” the statement added.
However, as the ruling BJP is celebrating the Ram Temple event as one of the significant achievements of the government in the face of the election, the Congress” reassertion of its secular stand is viewed as an important decision of political implications.
