INDIA Bloc Holds Protest Against Mass Suspension of MPs

The opposition-led INDIA bloc grouping is staging a nationwide protest on Friday against the suspension of a total of 146 MPs from the Winter Session of Parliament. In a joint protest at Delhi”s Jantar Mantar, INDIA bloc leaders urged people to unite since democracy is under threat under the Bharatiya Janata Party government. The leaders gathered together under the banner of “Save Democracy”.

Addressing the protest, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Modi ji and Amit Shah ji have taken the initiative to destroy the democracy and constitution of the country.” He said that when all unite Prime Minister Narendra Modi won”t be able to do anything. “We are not afraid of Modi government,” Congress Chief said. He added that how hard the Modi government tries to bury them in the ground, they are like seeds which have the habit of growing again and again. When all the opposition comes together, Modi alone can’t do anything, he added.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his speech said: “The MPs who were suspended are not just individuals but are the voices of the people of India.” He added that by suspending MPS “government silence voices of 60 percent people of India.” Rahul Gandhi also said that when the parliament breach incident showed the problem of unemployment in the country, the media is busy focusing him recording a video where suspended MPs where sitting outside the parliament.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar in his speech said that parliament is being attacked and the price is being paid by the 146 MPs who were suspended. He then added, “we are ready to pay any price to save the democracy,” ANI quotes as he is saying.

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said democracy is being murdered in the entire country. “No one has ever heard of so many suspensions in the Parliament. If they win next time they might wipe off Parliament as well,” he added. Similarly, D Raja, General Secretary, Communist Party of India asked, “If parliament becomes redundant, democracy will be killed! Can we allow such a fascist dictatorship to take over the country?” Several leaders belonging to the grouping is participating in the protest meeting, and registering their voice against the ruling government”s attempt to attack democracy.

On Thursday, INDIA bloc MPs took a protest march  from the old Parliament building to Vijay Chowk in Delhi.
