Two Muslim truck drivers were allegedly lynched by a cow vigilante mob in the early hours of Friday in Chhattisgarh while transporting buffaloes. The third who has survived with critical injuries is now undergoing treatment. The incident occurred in the Arang police station area.

The victims were identified as Chand Miya and Miya Khan. According to the police reports, the victims were transporting animals in a truck when they were chased by a group of 10-12 cow vigilantes on the Mahanadi Bridge.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, prompting outrage and calling out for justice. A 57-second video of the survivor which is now circulating on the social media gives a chilling account. The survivor who is barely conscious answered in monosyllables “yes” and “no” in the video. He said that the mob attacked them and threw two of their bodies onto the riverbed. At the same time, he jumped off the bridge to save his life.

The bodies recovered has several fractures and injuries. And one of them had one foot split apart. As per the sources, the truck was chased from Patewa on Mahasamund-Arag Road, around 70 km from Raipur.

The Atrang and Raipur police are actively investigating the matter. Statements from the eyewitnesses and survivors are being recorded. Post-mortem examination have been ordered to ascertain the cause of death.

The attack took place between 2am and 3am. Soon after receiving the information, when reached to the site, the police found three lying severely injured on the Mahanadi bed. Raipur ASP Kirtan Rathore told the reporters that one person was found dead and the other two were taken to the hospital where the second man died.

Following the incident, many have expressed their concern over the rising incidents of mob violence in the name of cow protection, emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement of the law and protection of citizen rights.
