Kumari Selja Clinches Triumph In Sirsa Lok Sabha Seat, Defeats Ashok Tanwar By 268,497 Votes

Kumari Selja, the Congress general secretary, emerged victorious as the party’s nominee for Sirsa, defeating Ashok Tanwar from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won with 733,823 votes, and a margin of 268,497 votes in Sirsa, Haryana.

Selja known for her subtle leadership, had previously taken charge of Chhattisgarh but was replaced by Sachin Pilot following the Assembly elections. Tanwar, a former Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president and Youth Congress President joined the BJP in January 2024 after a brief stint with AAP.

Sirsa, an important Lok Sabha constituency in Haryana, spanning Sirsa, Fatehabad, and part of Jind district, has historically been reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates since its inception in 1967.

In the 2019 elections, BJP candidate Sunita Duggal secured victory with an impressive margin of 309,918 votes, gathering 714, 351 total votes. In the Lok Sabha Election 2024, Selja won the seat, marking the first victory in the state of Haryana.
