Jithendra Kumar Dohre made his way into the parliament by garnering 488704 votes, with a victory margin of around 50,000 votes against the former Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Ram Shankar Katheria in Etawah constituency. The BJP leader received a total of 4,29,773 votes. BSP stands third with 96037 votes.

Ram Shankar Katheria is the sitting MP of Etawah. He is seeking for the second term from Etawah. He is the former minister of state for human resource development. He was former Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Caste. He was the MP of Agra before. Ram Shankar Katheria associated with RSS from his childhood. He was promoted to the post of party’s National General Secretary in 2014 and was in charge of the states, Punjab and Chhattisgarh in the same year

SP fielded Jithendra Kumar Dohare who was the earlier district president of BSP. SP believes that Jithendra Kumar Dohare could wield a commendable influence over the dalit community. Doheres has formed biggest bloc within the dalit community.

Etawah was bastion for SP, it is the native district of SP founder Muayam Singh Yadav. SP intends to consolidate Yadav and Muslim votes as well as dalit votes. On the other hand, BJP hopes the support from Brahmins and Thakurs.

In 2014, Ashok Kumar Dohare of BJP defeated Premdas Kateriya. BJP received 439646 votes meanwhile SP received 266700. Congress was relegated to fourth. In 2019, Ram Shankar Katheriya won the election by accumulating 522119 votes. Meanwhile Kamlesh Kumar of SP received 457682 votes.
