Ayodhya Card Failed: BJP Loses Faizabad To Samajwadi Party's Awadhesh Prasad

Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Awadhesh Prasad is heading from Faizabad by accumulating a total of 542614 votes. The SP leader is marking  a decisive lead of 66934 votes from the constituency. Faizabad has become politically important constituency. Ayodhya Temple is the focal point of BJP to consolidate the major Hindu votes.

The BJP candidate and incumbent MP Lallu Singh is at the second position with 485680 votes while Sachidanand Pandey of BSP is at the third with 45219

BJP candidate Lallu Singh is a heavyweight politician and stalwart candidate. He was elected from Faizabad in 2014 and 2019. He was an MLA of Ayodhya Legislative Assembly for a long term. He represented this assembly from 1991 to 2012.

Awadhesh Prasad, The SP candidate, is one of the foundational leaders of SP. He has been elected to legislative assembly for nine time and has become minister for six times. He is the incumbent MLA of Milkipur.

In 2009, Nirmal Khatri of Congress was the winner. However, in 2014, Lallu Singh of BJP won with a margin of 282775 votes against Mitrasen Yadav of SP. BJP secured 491761 votes and SP received 208986 votes. In 2019, though Lallu Singh secured his seat receiving 592021 votes, Anand Sen of SP succeeded in reducing the margin to 65447 from 282775.
