India is celebrating its75th Republic Day today. This year, French President Emmanuel Macron was chosen to be the chief guest. The Republic Day functions are taking place at Kartavya Path. The celebration are themed on ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Loktatantra ki Matrika’. January 26 marks the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950. Though India has gained freedom British colonial rule in 1947, it wasn’t until 1950, that the Constitution of India came into effect.

As India celebrates their Republic Day, US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken extended his greetings. In a statement, he said last year has been marked with significant milestones in “our Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership, including our cooperation throughout India”s successful G20 Presidency and at the G20 Leaders” Summit…In the year ahead, we look forward to further deepening the vibrant people-to-people ties between our countries and advancing our ambitious agenda for cooperation on our most vital priorities,”.

He further added that, “The Constitution of India continues to provide an enduring framework for the world”s largest democracy and a foundation for its global leadership… I warmly extend my best wishes to the Indian people as they celebrate this special occasion,”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his X (formerly twitter) to wish on the ‘special occasion’.

 

Emmanuel Macron, the French President shared a selfie with PM Modi and wrote that he is “happy and proud to be with” Indians today.

 

Home Minister Amit Shah wished Indians and said that, “On this auspicious occasion of democracy, I salute all the freedom fighters, constitution makers and the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the country”.

 

In a statement, President Droupadi Murmu extended her heartiest greetings to Indians. She said, “The 75th year of the Republic is truly a historic milestone in the journey of the nation in many ways. This is an especially festive occasion, just as we celebrated the unique greatness and diverse culture of our nation during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, when we completed 75 years of Independence”.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor shared that he is “proud” to represent India.

 

West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee also extended her “heartfelt greetings” on Republic Day.

 

Indian National Congress extended good wishes to all the fellow citizens of India. The party said 2024 “is a very important year for India. This year will decide whether we will be able to save the values of the Constitution and Democracy or go back to the age where not all people are equal. Today on Republic Day, let us all come together and make a pledge and join this mission of NYAY. Only then will we be able to secure the future of our youth”.
