India’s president Droupadi Murmu today addressed the nation on the eve of the 75th Republic Day of India. Ahead of the Republic Day celebration, the president today discussed several issues in her address. She began the address by reminding the people of the words enshrined in the preamble of the constitution “We, the People of India” and explaining why India is the “mother of democracy.”

In the begging, the president said that the India today remembers the great leaders who contributed to the framing of the Constitution, spending around 3 years and making detailed deliberations.

Noting the shift towards an epochal transformation and a chance to take the country to new heights, the president appealed to the citizens to abide by the fundamental duties outlined in the constitution.

In her address, the president quoted Mahatma Gandhi to remind the people about their obligations to the nation “No people have risen who thought only of rights. Only those did so who thought of duties.”

Pointing out the importance of celebrating diversity and equality, the president said that democracy implies diversity of culture, beliefs and practices. “Celebrating diversity implies equality, which is upheld by justice.” She further said that these values make Indians.

The president reminded the people of yesterday’s (Wednesday) birth centenary of backward classes advocate and the champion of social justice Karpoori Thakur and paid tributes to his contributions.

Noting the life of 1.4 billion Indians as a family, the president said that the co-existence is not an imposition of geography but a source of happiness, which finds expression in our Republic Day celebrations.

Talking about the Ram temple consecration, the president said that future historians will consider it a landmark in India’s continued re-discovery of its civilizational heritage. “Due judicial process and the decision of the highest court of the land,” she further added.

The president also praised the organising of the Group of 20 Summit under India’s presidency in the capital. She said that the event provided lessons for all in making citizens participate in strategic and diplomatic matters that are, in the final analysis, going to shape their future

The president also spoke about the Women’s Reservation Bill, saying it will prove to be a revolutionary tool for women’s empowerment. The president also spoke about other achievements the country made such as Chandrayaan-3, XPoSat, GDP growth, water availability, sports, home schemes, national education policy, women empowerment bill etc.

Droupadi Murmu concluded her speech by thanking India’s farmers, saying that they are toiling silently and making a mighty contribution to creating a better future for the nation.
