Outrage As Jay Shah Ignores Mohammed Siraj While Congratulating Team India
Jay Shah, the ICC Chairman and son of Home Minister Amit Shah, has sparked controversy after omitting Mohammed Siraj from his congratulatory message following India’s commanding victory over England in the second Test of the 2025 series. Shah’s post on X praised Shubman Gill’s twin centuries (269 and 161), Akashdeep’s 10-wicket haul, and contributions from Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant, but ignored Siraj’s pivotal role in the win, prompting accusations of bias and deliberate exclusion.
Siraj, India’s pace spearhead, delivered a match-defining performance, claiming 6/70 in England’s first innings, including the crucial wickets of Joe Root and Ben Stokes. His fiery spell triggered a collapse, securing India a substantial lead. Siraj also struck early in England’s second innings, removing an opener to set the tone for India’s dominance. Despite these heroics, Shah’s failure to acknowledge the bowler has ignited a firestorm on social media.

Fans and analysts expressed dismay, with many alleging religious or political motives behind the omission. X user Nattasha Sharrma wrote, “You conveniently and deliberately skip mentioning @mdsirajofficial, who took 7 wickets in this very match… Yaha bhi Hindu Muslim… Shame.” JavedAshraf Khan echoed this sentiment, stating, “This BJP appointee intentionally ignored that Siraj caused the collapse of English batting.” Others, like Pradeep Magazine, sarcastically remarked that Siraj’s “absence” from Shah’s post was as impactful as his on-field contribution.
While some, like user GroFaZ, suggested Shah’s omission was a calculated move for “engagement farming”.
