Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley is set to become the next BCCI Secretary, in case Jay Shah files his nomination for the role of the ICC Chairman, as per a report in the Dainik Bhaskar. 

Shah is the front-runner to take up the role of the next ICC Chairman after the incumbent Greg Barclay decided to step down from his position. The current BCCI secretary will be backed by England and Australia to take up the position with him requiring a prosper and a seconder to secure his ICC nomination.

The 35-year-old will become the youngest ICC Chairman in case his nomination is confirmed with the deadline for filing set for August 27. He has also been appointed by the BCCI as the ICC director and chairs the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs sub-committee.

The new tenure for the ICC Chairman has been amended from existing three terms of two years each to two terms of three years each. It is likely that if Shah is elected for the role then he will serve a three-year role which makes him eligible to become the BCCI President in 2028.

The process of election process as outlined by the ICC reads as follows: “Current directors are now required to put forward nominations for the next Chair by 27 August 2024 and if there is more than one candidate, an election will be held with the term of the new Chair commencing on 1 December 2024.”

The new chairman will hold the position for three years after the term was increased by an year.
