BCCI Secretary Jay Shah To Be ICC's New Chairman Replacing Greg Barclay ()

In a significant development for the world cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah is all set to replace Greg Barclay as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The report about Jay Shah’s elevation was all over after current ICC chairman Barclay chose to resign on Tuesday. According to reports, Barclay’s resignation was a forced following a $US3 billion dispute between the governing body and its major broadcast rights holder, Star.

It is also reported that Jay Shah received support from Cricket Australia, England and Wales Cricket Board and other full-time members. However, the BCCI secretory and ICC is yest to confirm the reports officially. Barclay was appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, before being re-elected in 2022.

The ICC in a press released stated that Greg Barclay has confirmed to the Board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November.

Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sharad Pawar are the only two Indians who have held the position of ICC’s chief in the past. Both held the position in the 1997 to 2000 and 2010-2012 terms, respectively. Shah, the son of India’s Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, will become the third to occupy the position when he replaces the current chairman.
