Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren resigned as chief minister amid the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning in the alleged money laundering associated with a land scam case. A report said Champai Soren, a prominent tribal leader and senior cabinet minister in the government formed by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and RJD, will be replacing him as the chief minister of Jharkhand.
Mr Hemant tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan after around seven hours of questioning by the ED officials.
There was speculation if the ED arrests chief minister Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana Soren would be the next chief minister. However, the party has unanimously projected Mr Champai Soren as the Chief Minister.
Following the ED’s search inside Mr Hemant’s residence, he has filed an FIR against the officials who raided his Delhi residence. The party had also accused the BJP of trying to topple the state government.
Congress has alleged that the Raj Bhavan is working as the BJP”s agent. “We are called at the ED office and given time. After that, we were insulted and asked to leave…Raj Bhavan is working as BJP”s agent…” Congress MLA Dipika Pandey Singh said. Saying that the chief minister is in ED”s custody, JMM MP Mahua Maji said that the chef minister went to governor with ED team to submit his resignation
