Jharkhand Family Alleges HIV Infection Through Blood Transfusion At Hospital; Husband, Wife, Child Affected
Ranchi, Jharkhand: Three members of the same family, a husband, wife, and their elder child, have tested HIV-positive in Jharkhand. In January 2023, the woman received blood during a C-section at Chaibasa Sadar Hospital in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.
It was in 2025 that the woman was revealed that she was HIV-positive, followed by her husband and their elder child born that year. As the couple’s second child’s tests are pending, the family has alleged that the transfusion from the district’s sole blood bank was the trigger. The blood bank had also faced similar scrutiny in 2025 when five thalassemia children contracted HIV, which had resulted in the suspensions, compensation, and a probe into the incident.
