"Nothing But Damage Control": Jairam Ramesh Slams BJP Chief For 'Inaction' Against Its MPs' SC Remarks
New Delhi: Congress has accused the BJP of deliberately targeting and weakening the Supreme Court after BJP MPs’ controversial remarks against the top court.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Saturday ignited massive controversy after launching a strong attack against the Supreme Court of India and specifically the Chief Justice, Sanjiv Khanna, for the verdicts in the controversial Waqf Amendment Act. The BJP leader said chief justice Sanjiv Khanna is responsible for all civil wars in this country. Noting the Supreme Court’s directions on several provisions of the Waqf law, including the proposal to stay some, Dubey said if the Supreme Court makes the law, then Parliament House should be closed.

Hours after the remark, BJP national chief J P Nadda said that the party rejects the remarks issued by its MP against the top court.
Congress general secretary in charge of communication Jairam Ramesh on Sunday said that the distancing of the BJP president from the “atrocious remarks made by 2 BJP MPs on the Chief Justice of India carries little meaning.” The Congress leader said that these MPs are repeat offenders when it comes to hate speech to attack communities, institutions, and individuals.

“The outgoing BJP President’s clarification is nothing but damage control. It will fool nobody. This is Entire Political Science reflecting itself as Entire Political Hypocrisy. “But the outgoing BJP President is totally silent on equally unacceptable remarks on the judiciary that are continually made by one of its very distinguished appointees to a high Constitutional position.”
The Congress Rajya Sabha MP further wondered why there is no action against these MPs while questioning the silence of the Prime Minister over repeated attacks on the Indian Constitution.

Distancing from Dubey’s remark, Nadda had said that the BJP has nothing to do with the statements made by its MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma on the judiciary and the chief justice. “These are their personal statements but the BJP neither agrees with such statements nor does it ever support such statements. “The BJP completely rejects these statements,” the BJP president said on Saturday.
Dubey later said that he had not talked to his party before expressing his views, adding that he would follow the party line. Notably, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar also slammed the Supreme Court’s decision to set a timeline for the President to clear Bills.
