New Delhi: A huge debate erupted over Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech in the parliament allegedly disrespecting Dr. BR Ambedkar. While the opposition slammed Shah for his remarks and staged a protest outside the Parliament premises, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the opposition allegations and said, “If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!
In a six-point thread on social media platform X, PM Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of indulging in “every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar” and “humiliate the SC/ST communities.”

Listing out the “Congress’ sins” against the Dalit icon, the BJP leader highlighted that the party got him defeated in elections “not once but twice,” denying him a Bharat Ratna, denying his portrait in Parliament’s Central Hall, and Nehru making his loss a “prestige issue” by campaigning against him.
Further accusing the grand old party, he continued, “Congress can try as they want but they can’t deny that the worst massacres against SC/ST Communities have happened under their regimes. For years, they sat in power but did nothing substantive to empower the SC and ST communities.”

Sharing a video of Amit Shah’s controversial speech in Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister stated that the former had “exposed the Congress’ dark history of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the SC/ST Communities.” He accused the party of indulging in theatrics after being “stung” and “stunned” by Shah’s remarks.

Speaking on the BJP-led central government fulfilling Ambedkar’s vision, PM Modi claimed that the ruling government had removed 25 crore people from poverty, strengthened the SC/ST Act, and introduced schemes such as Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ujjwala Yojana for the poor and marginalised communities.
In the final tweet, he continued listing out the ruling government’s efforts, including developing Panchteerth, the five places associated with Ambedkar. “For decades, there was a pending issue on land for Chaitya Bhoomi. Not only did our Government resolve the issue, I have gone to pray there as well,” he wrote.
He further stated that the government had developed 26, Alipur Road in Delhi, where Dr. Ambedkar spent his last years, along with acquiring the London house where he resided.
“When it comes to Dr. Ambedkar, our respect and reverence is absolute,” he stated.

During a debate to mark the 75th year of the Constitution, Shah, while addressing the House, said that taking Dr. BR Ambedkar’s name had become a “fashion” now. “It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar.’ If they took God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven,” he said. Shah then stated that Ambedkar had to resign from the first cabinet following his disagreement with the Jawaharlal Nehru-led government.
His remarks sparked a huge controversy, with Congress leaders accusing him of insulting the Dalit icon. MPs from opposition parties protested outside the parliament with photos of Ambedkar. The BJP accused the Congress of circulating a short video clip that did not show Shah’s remarks on how the Congress allegedly sidelined BR Ambedkar.
In response, the opposition demanded the home minister’s resignation.
