New Delhi: A fresh row has erupted in both houses of the Parliament after Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement against the opposition’s invocation of the constitutional architect Dr Br Ambedkar’s name in the debates. The Home Minister made the controversial remark during a debate in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
While speaking at the conclusion session of the two-day debate on the “Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India,” the Home Minister criticised the Congress party for its repeated references to Ambedkar’s name, stating that had they taken God’s name so many times, they could have secured a place in heaven.

“It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If they took God’s name so many times, they would have gotten a place in heaven,” Amit Shah was heard saying.

The remark sparked political debate, with the opposition accusing the home minister of insulting BR Ambedkar. Opposition MPs have staged protests in the parliament, holding photos of India’s constitutional architect. The BJP has dismissed Congress protests as “cheap tricks” to manipulate public perception and sentiment, while the opposition stressed the need for respectful acknowledgment of Ambedkar’s contributions to the Constitution.
Both the parties have been hurling criticism at each other as the row turn to be massive, with comments from Prime Minister Modi and opposition chief minister. Both houses of the parliament have been adjourned till 2PM.
