New Delhi, October 9, 2025: A peaceful Palestine solidarity protest organised by Fraternity Movement DU, alongside MSF, AISF, ASA, Disha, and student sympathisers at Delhi University, descended into chaos when a right wing mob launched a violent attack. The demonstration, aimed at expressing solidarity with Palestine, was disrupted before it could commence as the mob hurled Islamophobic and misogynistic slogans to intimidate participants.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants physically assaulted protesters, with female students being specifically targeted and manhandled. The mob escalated the violence by throwing stones and eggs, leaving several students with serious injuries. Rather than safeguarding the peaceful demonstrators, Delhi Police allegedly exacerbated the situation, using excessive force against the students, including women, without female officers present, in violation of protocol.

Protesters were dragged, beaten, and unjustly detained, with eight student activists from various DU campuses still held at Model Town Police Station without release. The detained students, vocal supporters of the Palestinian cause, now face uncertainty as authorities have provided no clear justification for their continued detention.

The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting the growing intolerance of Hindutva groups on university campuses and raising concerns about the suppression of free speech and democratic rights. Student organisations have condemned the police’s complicity and demanded the immediate release of their peers, alongside a thorough investigation into the mob’s actions and police misconduct.
